Web Designer

We are looking for a web designer who wants to solve meaningful problems and create beautiful, functional, and persuasive interfaces. This is a learning environment. You will learn how to be a better designer, sell your work to a client, and how to take and give feedback.

In addition to working collaboratively with a team to solve problems and solve them well, you also need to be able to stand tall in front of a skeptical crowd and convince them that your solution is the best solution for them. You must be adept at client services. Your blood should boil with the urgency to get shit done and sell good design to people. You should excel at generating your own ideas, and not be upset about being asked to flesh out someone else’s ideas.

You gotta love the web.

We are a small shop and everyone who works here has to be at the top of their game.

The designer we’re looking for has:

  • a powerful intellectual curiosity
  • a strong sense of craft
  • the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines (research, strategy, interaction design, code) and ideas about how to improve the intersections
  • a solid understanding of both design theory and practical tools
  • no fear of clients, or of telling clients things they might need to know but are afraid to hear
  • verbal communication and reasoning skills, including the ability to make a business case for design
  • a year or three working a crap job in the restaurant industry

Write a short email convincing us why we should talk to you. Be persuasive. Don’t be cute. E-mails with attachments get auto-filtered to the trash.

This is a permanent, full-time job beginning as soon as we find the right person.
You will work on-site in San Francisco.
